From Receivers to Leaders: Building Community Mental Health Leadership Among Korean Immigrant Seniors

Yeri Shon is the Chief of Program Integration and Community Impact at the Korean Community Center of the East Bay (KCCEB). She has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (BS), and completed her Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Social Work (MSW) dual degree program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Raised in an immigrant family, Yeri is passionate about being at the forefront of advancing health equity and justice. With over seven years of working at non-profit organizations including a federally qualified health center, Yeri understands how systemic barriers can result in negative health outcomes and disempowerment within communities. Her current focus is developing and implementing strategies that improve social impact through research, evidence-based practices, and organizational learning. She believes this is the foundation for finding sustainable public health solutions and working towards a world in which race and socioeconomic status are no longer major indicators of an individual’s health outcomes.
